Burkina Faso
Burkina Faso has received funding from France and Canada to finance the construction of border posts.
The country has faced recurrent jihadist attacks since 2015 mainly in the north near the border with Mali and Niger.
The 300,000 euro funding agreement was signed on Thursday.
Burkina Faso’s Minister of Security, Simon Compaoré said the construction of border crossings is part of a multi million euro program adding that every year, gendarmerie and police units will be set up as part of the border management strategy.
Work has already began in Intangom a town 5 km from the border with Mali where 3 soldiers were killed in a terrorist attack a few weeks ago.
French special forces are stationed in Burkina Faso in the fight against jihadists in the Sahel.
A terrorist attack on a luxury hotel in Ouagadougou in January 2016 left 30 people dead and 71 injured.
